My End of Year Goals

I know that I was supposed to make my resolutions wayyy back in January, but thanks to school conditioning, September will always be the real start of the year to me.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want in the future lately, what I want out of life in general and what I can do to make it happen.

So, in the spirit of using new stationery and opening the first page of a fresh notebook, I thought I'd round up my goals for the rest of 2017.

Stop worrying so much

Anyone who knows me in real life will know that I worry about everything, no matter how important it is. If it exists, I've probably had some kind of mental crisis about it. It's got to the point now where it's causing serious issues and making me really unhappy.

Most of the time I worry about things that I have no control over, so I'm wasting my time stressing out when there's nothing I can do about it. Basically, I need to chill the eff out.

It's a lot easier said than done though, amiright? Something I'm trying to do at the moment is seeing the positives in every situation, and taking active steps to help myself, which leads me on to my next goal:

Meditate regularly

Meditation is something I've been wanting to get into for a while, but I've never been able to do on my own. I just get distracted far too easily.

My friend Lucy and i decided to check out a guided meditation session to try and force ourselves to give it a go properly. The current course of sessions are on overcoming anxiety, which given my worrywart ways, have proved to be really helpful so far.

The sessions are run by Buddhist monks and the odd prayer is involved, so I do have to leave my natural skepticism at the door, but I've found it really helpful so far and have definitely felt better afterwards. The plan is to keep going to the sessions, even if I have to go on my own, and try to practice at home as well, without the dulcet tones of a Buddhist monk guiding me.

Continue working towards a healthy lifestyle

As you may know if you follow me on Twitter, I've recently started running regularly again, and I am loving it. I love trying to beat my personal bests because I'm basically Monica from Friends and I can turn anything into a competition.

However, summer me and winter me have very different motivations, especially once it gets to the point where it's dark before and after work.

My aim is to continue running a few miles a week throughout the colder months, and start working on my strength through yoga and weights as well because let me tell you, I have the upper arm strength of a marshmallow and I'd really like to be able to carry my shopping home without breaking a sweat.

I find that when I'm on top of my exercise routine, I naturally want to eat more healthily too. I'm not strictly a veggie, but 90% of what I eat is vegan out of preference, so I'm trying to find some vegan recipes which aren't too complicated and don't require ingredients that I need to pay £300 for on the black market. My confidence in the kitchen has increased lately and I'm really enjoying whipping up new meals.

Work hard

I'm working on something new and exciting which I think you're going to love (no dad, it's not a baby)...but that's all I can say for now.

I know, I know, I hate me too. But all will be revealed soon, so watch this space.
