How To Dress an Hourglass Figure

23 May

Untitled

I'd describe my figure as "slim hourglass". I'm a size 10/12 (depending on which body part I'm dressing) with big boobs, hips and thighs and a little waist. I constantly read that this is the most desirable body shape, and yet I'm sure most women of my proportions would agree that it's frickin' hard to find clothes that actually fit properly on the high street.

Dresses either squash my boobs or are baggy at the waist.

High waisted jeans and trousers are tight on the hips but gape on the waist and calves.

Don't even get me started on low rise jeans. Hi, muffin top!

What I've noticed in bloggers is that there are a lot of slim bloggers, and a lot of plus sized curvy bloggers, but not many slim but curvy bloggers. Unless you're into vintage style, which I'm not really.

I want to wear fashionable clothes, but in a way that suits my figure. I adore the oversized blouse with skinny jeans look, but unfortunately anything that doesn't fit me at the waist makes me look huge. I love high necks, but they have a tendency to look a bit maternity wear when you're "blessed" with a larger chest.

I'm also not overly keen on pencil skirts, which seem to be on every "how to dress an hourglass figure" list, as I'm conscious that my stomach isn't completely flat and they're just a bit too grown up for my girly style.

I thought I'd share some style combinations that work for me, in the hope it may help some of you ladies who have gone through similar frustrations with fashion.

Oversized blouses/shirts with a skater skirt that has a wide waistband - my number one, most worn look.

Low cut, v-neck tops with high waisted, tapered trousers - for when I'm feeling more professional.

Slightly stretchy skater dresses - I buy a size down so they fit my waist properly - just be careful the material doesn't go see through when it's stretched!

A fitted t-shirt or jumper with a fifties style midi skirt - this is a good one for the summer as it's super comfy and looks cute with sandals.

And heels always help! An ankle boot with a chunky heel is my go-to.

Do you struggle to dress for your shape? How do you make fashionable pieces work for you?
