My 2017 Goals

31 December

Hello all, welcome back to my blog! I hope you've all had a lovely Christmas, or a lovely last few weeks of the year if you don't celebrate Christmas. I've had a bit of a crazy fortnight what with exams, work appraisals, nights out and ALL THE FOOD. I never want to see a potato again.

I'm looking forward to 2017 and although new year's resolutions tend to get a bit of a bad rep, I really enjoy taking time to regroup and think about what I want to achieve in the coming months. Today I thought I'd share my goals for next year with you.

Be more patient. My resolution each year is to be a nicer person, because I think that's always something to strive for, but this year I'm being a bit more specific and aiming to be more patient with other people and myself.

I'm the person who's always rushing around, both literally (don't stop in front of me in the street!) and in life. I'm always looking forward to the next thing, whether that's an actual destination or a point in life, and next year I'm going to try and enjoy living in the moment instead.

I also want to have more patience with others - I find it hard to process that not everybody's thoughts and morals are the same as mine, and I need to be more 'live and let live' about it.

Continue to blog and make more YouTube videos. My problem with blogging, and most things I do, is that I go in all guns blazing, only to get burned out after a short while and stop completely. This is usually because I put too much pressure on myself to do what I think I should be doing, like posting at specific times and days per week and writing about certain subjects, or in a certain manner.

Going forward, I want my blog to be a bit more personal, with some 'Dear Diary' style posts and a less rigid posting schedule, trying to post at least once a week rather than three times a week. At the end of the day, blogging is a hobby that I love but I work full time and study as well so sometimes that just has to take priority.

I also posted my first YouTube video in 2016 and would like to make more next year. I have so many ideas, it's just finding time to record, edit and upload!

Build up my savings. I am so bad with money, and my desire for a new outfit or a meal out often trumps putting aside some rainy day funds. Living alone has definitely forced me to become more responsible with my pennies, but my savings aren't anywhere near where I want them to be. Coupled with my constant background anxiety about becoming unemployed or having a financial emergency, this isn't great.

Next year I'm going to start saving properly; maybe for a house, maybe just because, and this time in 12 months I want to be proud of the balance in my savings account.

Pass nine ACCA exams. I'm currently training to become a Certified Chartered Accountant, and that means passing 14 (yes, FOURTEEN!) ACCA exams, as well as completing some practical work experience. I've passed three exams this year, and next year I want to do as many as I can.

You get 10 years to complete the ACCA qualification but me being me, I want to get through it as quickly as possible to meet my goal. This means a lot of getting my head down and working hard, no excuses. I know it will be worth it in the long run.

Make my health a priority. 2016 wasn't my best year mentally, and in 2017 I'm going to do what I can to put myself first when appropriate. I know for a fact that exercise helps me when I'm feeling down, so I've rejoined the gym and I'm going to make a proper effort to go at least three times a week. Exercise makes me feel happy, confident and awake, so it's worth fitting in to my schedule.

This year I've become more thoughtful about the food I eat and how it affects my body and our planet. I've cut down on dairy and have pretty much stopped eating meat altogether. I want to continue this next year and add some more healthy recipes to my arsenal.

Stop biting my nails. Because I've been doing it for as long as I can remember, and acrylics just aren't sustainable.

Happy new year! Let me know your goals for next year, I'd love to hear them.
